Izzy’s Ice Cream Hiring Party is Back! Seeking Storytellers this year…
[Saint Paul, MN] Want to make, serve, or deliver the best ice cream in America? Come by Izzy’s on April 9th for our annual hiring party and for added fun: Tell us the outrageous story of how your favorite ice cream came to be.
“The rare arctic honeybees came to Minnesota during the polar vortex of 2014. They took up residence at Izzy’s new Minneapolis location, which they mistook for bee hive. Employees discovered that the bees were not only friendly, but willing to be milked! Painstaking hours with specially designed milking tweezers resulted in a small batch of cream, and Honey Ice Cream was born.”
Izzy’s Ice Cream is looking to hire a new crop of summer employees, and has hand-crafted a hiring experience that they hope will be a chance for fun, creative workers to get to know the award winning company. Starting today (Friday 4/03), Izzy’s is inviting anyone interested in joining the team to submit a story about the origins of their favorite flavor. And the stories don’t need to be written. Applicants are welcome to submit a set of images, a video or even sound files as their story.
All are invited to a hiring party on Thursday 4/9 from 6-8pm at the Izzy’s Minneapolis location (1100 2nd Street South, Mpls 55415), where they will play games, enjoy free food, and can start the next step of the hiring process. And for those that submit stories ahead of time there are additional prizes involved!

A company that has excelled by thinking outside the box, Izzy’s is looking to hire employees that can do the same. “Last year’s haiku contest was a huge success”, says Izzy’s General Manager Shannon Leach, “we got to know people not just through a job application, but through artistic expression.”
An imaginative approach to ice cream making is what catapulted Izzy’s Ice Cream to critical recognition since it opened its doors in 2000, and what they hope will continue to sustain it for years to come With summer rapidly approaching, Izzy’s & Saint Paul’s Dangerous Productions, have yet again created a hiring experience like no other in the Twin Cities. “You can tell a lot about a person by the stories they tell” says Dangerous Productions Artistic Leader, Tyler Olsen.
Both of Izzy’s Saint Paul and Minneapolis-based locations are hiring. With most of the work being very physical, Izzy’s is looking for a strong team ( ages 16+ with a few positions open for 14 and 15 year olds) offering both seasonal and year-round work. Promotions are a very real possibility, especially for employees whose values align with those of the company. There’s lots of work to be done: scooping, delivery, ice cream making and shift leading , and at Izzy’s every member of the team counts.
“We want people who work hard, and like to learn” says says Izzy’s owner Jeff Sommers, “people with creativity, curiosity, and perseverance. If you’re a leader who is willing to be taught, work your way up, and value other people, then Izzy’s could be the place for you…
“I saw the graham cracker delivery truck was on a crash course for the milk shake stand. Nobody got hurt, thankfully, and Graham Cracker Ice Cream was born. Although now I need to figure out how to make a s’more that won’t melt before I eat it!
